FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions.
Q. Do I have to be a member of Westhampton, Embry Hills, or Northcrest pool to join the swim team?
A. No, our swim team has an "open-membership" meaning that anyone who wishes to participate can join.
Q. Are there volunteer requirements?
A. Yes, it takes a lot to run a swim meet and we need your help. This year we are requiring two volunteer shifts per family during the season (and more if possible). If you opt-out of volunteering, a $50 dollar additional fee will be charged at the end of the season.
Q. How much is registration?
A. The Electric Rays swim club charges $115 for the first swimmer, $90 for the second swimmer and $80 for each additional swimmer. The max amount per family is $415. These fees are for 2025 and includes an end of the year trophy(or medal), practices, and the championship meet. HOWEVER, the Atlanta Swimming Association (which we are a part of) charges an additional $50 to register to be eligible to swim in meets. ASA charges late fees that go into effect April 15th and June 1st. We have no control over those fees. There are also some processing fees associated w/ registration.
Q. What about swimsuits?
A. Our swimsuit color is solid royal or sapphire blue. Boys typically wear "jammers" which are a boxer-brief looking type swimsuit. The girls are required to wear a one-piece for the swim meets. Many of our families get their swimsuits from Swimoutlet.com but feel free to get yours wherever you wish. For practice, any swimsuit is fine; however, a one-piece is HIGHLY recommended and encouraged for the girls. If you don't have a royal/sapphire blue bathing suit and don't wish to buy one any color blue will be acceptable.
Q. What should I bring to practice?
A. Please bring a positive attitude, towel, goggles (an extra pair if possible since they break), water bottle, a swim cap for those with long hair (If you don't have a cap just put the hair up in a ponytail or some fashion so it will not interfere with the swimmer's face), and sunscreen dependent on the weather. Westhampton pool is mostly in the shade by around 5:00 pm or so, and Embry Hills pool stays sunny until 6:30 or 7:00 pm.
Q. What if it rains?
A. If it rains we just get more wet while practicing! If there is thunder or lightning that is a different story and we will get out and wait until the storm passes or send out an alert that practice is canceled if needed. The safety of our swimmers is our number one priority.
Q. Does my child need to be able to swim to be on the swim team?
A. Your child must be able to swim one length (25yds) unassisted to compete in meets on the swim team. If your child is comfortable in the water and at least able to dog paddle but unable to make it across the pool, he/she may remain on the team and practice with the Little Rays with coach approval. If you are not confident that your child can swim across the pool, please register him/her for the Little Rays and we will promote your child when that milestone is reached which might even be before the first mee. If you have further questions/concerns regarding this please don't hesitate to contact us.
