Make sure to pay close attention to the sizing guidance for the brand you are considering and even if you measure your child, order their suit in a couple of different sizes so there is a better chance of one of them fitting. 

Boys should wear the "jammer" style suits, which look like long biker shorts. 

Girls should wear a one-piece standard racing-style swimsuit.
