Pangborn swim meet TOMORROW!!!
Well it's finally here! Our first meet of the season is scheduled for tomorrow at 6:00pm at Pangborn. For those of you who have looked at the weather....it doesn't look promising; however, as of now we are still moving forward. Remember to sign up for "rained out" to get the latest on whether the meet will be cancelled. If it is cancelled we are planning for a make up meet on Thursday, and if that gets cancelled they mentioned a possible Saturday morning meet (however, I will be out of town so someone else will have to take the reigns if that happens).
Plan on being at the meet tomorrow at 5:00pm (at the Pangborn pool). There should be plenty of parking but if the lot is full you can park on the side of the street. They will have a concession stand available with the standard goodies including chick-fil-a sandwiches which range in costs from $0.50 to $5.00 Our warm up starts around 5:20 so be there before then.
If this is your first meet, there will be a lot going on. Upon arrival you should check in at the "check in" desk. There will be a sign around our area that will be designated the check in spot. The volunteers will check you in and mark which events you will be swimming. I attempted to get everyone at least four events. As they mark on your swimmer, they will list a table with the event #, the heat #, and the lane #. The event # refers to the event being swam (25m free), the heat # refers to the heat they are swimming, and the lane # refers to the lane which they are swimming in. Sometimes it can get confusing. Don't hesitate to ask if you are confused. Also just as a refresher the IM (Individual Medley) is an event where all four strokes are swum in the following order (Fly, back, breast, free). The Medley Relay is a relay in which all four strokes are swum in the following order (back, breast, fly, free). That gets confusing as well. If you are confused don't hesitate to ask.
Swim meets tend to take some time so be patient. They typically start at 6:00 and last to around 9:00 or so. One of the funny bumper stickers out there is "If today were my last day on earth I would want to be at a swim meet...because they last forever". I don't think it is quite that bad...but it gives you an idea!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. If you volunteered to help at this meet I want to say Thank you and I will be sending out another email shortly outlining some of your responsibilities.
Looking forward to tomorrow!! Go Electric Rays!
Jason
