Championship meet at Georgia Tech
Hello everyone,
This is the time of the season that get even more hectic. Championships is about a week and a half away (Wed. June 27) and between now and then we have two home meets and four practices. I will be sending out a lot of emails so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. This email is specifically regarding the Championship meet.
The Championship meet is Wednesday June 27th at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center (Home of the 1996 Olympic Swimming pool). It is a very nice facility on the Georgia Tech campus. There is usually a parking fee associate with it. This meet is a little different as it is split up among the age groups and is during the day. Swimmers in the 10 & Under group swim in the morning from 9-12. Warm up times have not been announced yet but plan on being there at least an hour early. Swimmers in the 11 & Over group swim in the afternoon from 3-6. Plan on being there at least an hour early. Each swimmer gets to choose the two events they would like to swim for the meet. Register online and peak the events your swimmer would like to participate in. Unlike other meets, I will not change these preferences. Once I see which individuals are entered, I will then set up the relays. I will attempt to get as many people in relays as possible but depending on how the numbers work out I may not be able to. Meet entries need to be in to the ASA group by next Friday (Jun 22). This means I need all of your entries by next Friday (June 22) morning at 7am. This will allow me time to set the relays. If you are planning on being out of town this week please plan ahead and enter your swimmers entries prior to leaving. Unlike other meets once the entries on submitted we cannot change them without incurring a $20/event fee which will be passed onto you. IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER YOUR SWIMMER YOU SWIMMER CANNOT SWIM WITHOUT INCURRING A $20/EVENT FEE WHICH WILL BE PASSED ONTO YOU.
If you are not planning on swimming in the Championship meet please select the "not attending" option on the website. That way I will know that your swimmer is intentionally not planning on going.
The meet is a lot of fun with a large number of swimmers. Our meet is just a portion of the much larger meet that goes on Wed -Thur. If your child makes it in the top 40 (10&U) or top 30 (11&over) they can come back and swim in the finals on June 30th. Every year we have a few that make it back. It is very difficult to make it back to the finals and the times that are swam there are typically very fast!!
The Championship meet truly is a great experience for the kids. I've had several swimmers tell me after swimming that they want to go to Georgia Tech because of the meet and a few years ago there was an Olympic swimmer signing autographs. It is fun to see your name on the board and be able to say that you swam in the Olympic pool!!
I will be out of town Wed-Sun of next week but I will be available via email. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. REMEMBER TO SIGN UP FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEET IT IS NOW OPEN!!
Jason
